Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Some wounds need more than time to heal. They need oxygen.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an advanced, noninvasive treatment that helps the body repair damaged tissue by increasing oxygen levels in the blood. At Saint Agnes, HBOT is provided in a comfortable, monitored setting by specially-trained clinicians.
How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?
During treatment, you rest inside a pressurized chamber while breathing 100% oxygen. The increased pressure allows oxygen to dissolve more effectively into your bloodstream and reach areas with poor circulation.
This boost of oxygen can help by:
- Stimulating new blood vessel growth
- Reducing swelling
- Strengthening the body's ability to fight infection
- Promoting faster tissue repair
Treatments are painless, and many patients relax, nap or watch television during their sessions.
Conditions we treat
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be recommended for:
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Radiation-related tissue damage (bone or soft tissue)
- Chronic bone infections
- Compromised skin grafts or flaps
- Certain sudden vision conditions, such as central retinal artery occlusion
Our team will evaluate your condition and determine if hyperbaric therapy is right for you.
