What is a low-dose CT lung screening?
A low-dose CT scan uses a small amount of radiation to create detailed images of your lungs. The scan is quick and painless, taking just a few minutes to complete.
Screening is designed for people at higher risk for lung cancer who do not have symptoms. Your doctor can help you understand the benefits and risks and decide whether screening is right for you.
Who should consider lung cancer screening?
If you’re age 50 or older and currently smoke or used to smoke, talk with your doctor about your eligibility. Screening may be recommended based on your age, smoking history and overall health.
A smoking history of at least 20 “pack-years” is one factor used to determine eligibility. This is equal to smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years. Additional requirements may apply, including how long ago you quit smoking.
Schedule your low-dose CT lung screening
Lung screenings are available at both the Saint Agnes Medical Center Imaging Department and Saint Agnes Outpatient Imaging Center.
Medicare and most insurance plans cover lung cancer screening for people who meet eligibility requirements. Check with your insurance plan to confirm your coverage. If screening is not covered by insurance, the cost is $149.
