Saint Agnes first in the Valley to perform spine surgery with latest robotic surgical system

Fresno, CA—Saint Agnes is the first hospital in the Central Valley to perform spine surgery with the Mako 4 – the most advanced orthopedic robotic surgical system available.

This is the Medical Center’s second Mako system and expands the range of robotically assisted procedures performed at Saint Agnes, including spine, total hip, total knee, partial knee and shoulder surgeries. The first-generation system acquired in 2021 is only utilized for knee surgeries.

The system is designed to provide individualized surgical plans tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy with the help of virtual 3D CT-based modeling, including specialized cranial and spine guidance software. In addition to pre-operative planning, the surgical system acts as a guide during surgery to ensure only the targeted areas in the plan are operated on. This helps preserve the patient’s natural anatomy as much as possible while reducing pain and improving recovery times when compared to traditional manual surgery methods.
