Fresno, CA — Earlier this month, Saint Agnes Surgeon Dr. Russell Martin performed the 3000th robotically-assisted surgery of his career. Dr. Martin is the leading robotic surgeon at Saint Agnes and is recognized as one of the highest-volume robotic surgeons on the West Coast.

Born and raised in the Central Valley, Dr. Martin is committed to making advanced surgical care more accessible for the community he grew up in. Specializing in minimally invasive, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Martin treats conditions such as colon cancer, umbilical, inguinal and ventral hernia repair, cholecystectomy (gallbladder) and esophageal diseases, among others.

“As the first hospital to introduce robotic surgery to the Central Valley in 2001, we are proud to have skilled surgeons like Dr. Martin leading the way for our program,” says Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Saint Agnes President and Market Leader. “We are proud of Dr. Martin’s tremendous career achievement and are grateful for his dedication to providing our patients with high-quality, advanced surgical care close to home.”

Last year, Dr. Martin became one of the first physicians in the Valley to use the Intuitive da Vinci 5® surgical system after Saint Agnes acquired the advanced robotic system in March 2025. The addition of the da Vinci 5 has allowed Saint Agnes and its physicians to expand the scope of care available to our patients, providing surgical solutions for even the most complex and intricate cases.
