About Coverage is Care

Understanding Coverage is Care

Coverage is Care is a community-focused initiative that helps individuals and families understand their health coverage and connect with trusted information and resources. As changes to Medi-Cal are implemented beginning in 2027, Coverage is Care serves as a central resource for clear, easy-to-understand information that helps people prepare for what's ahead, understand what steps they may need to take and know where to turn if they have questions.

By bringing together reliable information and community resources in one place, Coverage is Care aims to reduce confusion and help individuals and families stay informed throughout the changes ahead.

Why this initiative matters

Changes to Medi-Cal may bring new requirements and processes for some individuals and families beginning in 2027. While implementation details continue to evolve, one things remains clear: preparing early can help reduce confusion and make it easier for people to understand what to expect.

Coverage is Care encourages early awareness by bringing together trusted information, practical resources and community support—all in one place.

Why coverage matters

Health coverage is more than insurance. It helps people stay connected to preventive care, medications, behavioral health services, maternity care, children's healthcare and ongoing treatment. When coverage is interrupted because of missed paperwork, outdated contact information or confusion about the process, people may delay care or experience unnecessary disruptions to their health.

Coverage is Care exists to make information easier to understand, encourage early preparation and help connect people with trusted resources before avoidable barriers affect access to care.

Coverage Is Care is built around four guiding principles that help make health coverage information easier to understand and easier to navigate.

Early Awareness

Help people understand upcoming changes before important deadlines are missed. People who know changes are coming are better prepared to take action when it's time.

Support

Connect people with information and resources when questions or barriers arise. Whether you're looking for answers or aren't sure where to begin, we'll help point you in the right direction.

Clear guidance

Provide trusted information in plain language so families know what to expect and where to find answers. Our goal is to make complex information easier to understand.

Community Partnerships

Work alongside healthcare organizations, community-based organizations (CBOs) and other trusted partners to strengthen awareness and expand access to information throughout our community.
