"Back to my routine"
Lynnette Vincent of Fresno knows firsthand. At age 40, Lynnette began to experience heavy and painful menstrual cycles. With a busy routine – including teaching fourth graders and keeping an active schedule with her husband and two children – a treatment plan that involved a lengthy recovery was not an easy option.
Lynnette's physician, Seung Nam Kim, M.D., Ob/Gyn, recommended a couple procedures - endometrial ablation or hysterectomy using the da Vinci® Surgical System at Saint Agnes Medical Center.
"Traditional open hysterectomies usually require a 6- to 8-inch incision, and patients often need as much as six weeks to recover," Dr. Kim says. "A robotic hysterectomy requires only four tiny abdominal holes, and means a far quicker recovery."
Following surgery, Lynnette had little need for pain medication, and it didn't take long for her to get back into a routine. "The next day, I was up and dressed and at a basketball game," she says. "I was Christmas shopping in a matter of days, and I went skiing three weeks later."
