      Saint Agnes has the only Adult Sickle Cell program from L.A. to Sacramento. The program includes education, medical supervision and genetic counseling. For more information or an appointment, call 450-5121.
    • Total Hip Replacement / Total Knee Replacement Surgery - Pre-Operative Class
      Class offers a day-by-day description of post-operative care, pain management, demonstration of exercises and transfer techniques, discussion of discharge planning needs and information on assistive devices needed to resume activities of daily living. Once the surgery date is selected we will contact the patient to schedule this class and all pre-admission testing for the same day.       Support group for adults who have recently experienced the death of a friend or loved one. Group meets twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. Call (559) 450-3858 to register.
    • CPR - Healthcare Provider Course
      This two part, eight-hour CPR course for professional healthcare providers meets American Heart Association standards. Classes are offered twice monthly (except December) on the first and third Tuesday of each month, 6-10 p.m. The fee is $52. Class size is limited to 12 participants. Preregistration and prepayment is required. For more information, call (559) 450-2010.
    • Diabetes Insulin Training
      This 2 hr. training session is for individuals who need to learn to administer insulin to themselves or another person. Individuals are seen by appointment with MD referral. Fee is based on time spent with staff. For more information, call (559) 450-2002.
    • Personal Wellness Profile
      The personal wellness profile is a screening tool to help determine how you can improve your health and well-being. The medically and statistically based tool uses a self-report questionnaire, height and weight, blood pressure, body fat and total cholesterol assessment, to tell you how you can increase your chances of living longer and living well. These screenings are not a substitute for regular medical checkups. However, the report will contain specific, personal information about the ways your medical history, family background and current lifestyle impact your overall health. A confidential report explaining your results will be mailed to your home with recommendations for lifestyle improvements. Wellness profile available by appointment only, call (559) 450-2010.

      This six-week session offers an opportunity for moral support and education about the grief process for those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. Cost is $50 (free to those who have had a recent death of a loved one served by Saint Agnes Hospice.       Pregnancy is particularly stressful for women with diabetes, who require careful monitoring. Saint Agnes offers a clinic with our nurse educator, dietitian and physician on Wednesdays, 2-4 p.m. By appointment, with MD referral. Call (559) 450-2002 for an appointment.

      Footsteps is a six-week expressive arts program providing grief support for children and teens (4 - 18) who have experienced a death in the family. Parent/Caregiver support groups meet at the same time as the children. Registration is required. Scholarships are available and no one is turned down for lack of funds.     • Prostate Cancer Support Group
      This group helps men learn about the causes, diagnosis, treatment options and outcomes of prostate cancer. Information is also available about related conditions such as incontinence and impotence. The group is appropriate for men in all stages of the disease and recovery. Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Saint Agnes Cancer Center conference room.Call (559) 355-3125 for more information.

    • Heart Health for Heart Failure
      The goal of treatment for heart failure is to help the heart muscle pump stronger and work less. This 90-minute class will educate patients and their caregivers on heart function, heart failure, importance of weighing regularly, medications, diet, activity, complications, as well as self-help, medical treatment plans and psychological aspects. We encourage the patient and caregiver to attend together. Class is held the 2nd Tuesday of every month, 10-11:30 a.m. This course is free, but preregistration is required.
