Healthy Chili Dog Recipe

Have a healthy chili dog before the game, and you won't be tempted with high-fat ballpark food at the stadium. Loaded with a spicy black bean topping, these chili dogs are filling and delicious.

Ingredients

    • 2 tsp canola oil
    • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 1 can (15 oz) low salt black beans, rinsed and drained
    • 2 medium jalapeño peppers, stemmed and finely chopped
    • 3 tsp chili powder
    • 1 Tbsp ground cumin
    • 1 cup no salt added diced tomatoes
    • 1 Tbsp cider vinegar
    • 12 97% fat free kosher hot dogs
    • 12 whole wheat hot-dog buns

Preparation

    • >In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat until hot. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is soft, about 10 minutes. Add the beans, jalapeños, chili powder and cumin and cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
    • Add the tomatoes and vinegar and stir until well combined. Reduce the heat to medium low, cover the pot and let simmer, stirring occasionally, until the chili has thickened, about 5 minutes.
    • Meanwhile, cook the hot dogs according to the package directions. Place the hot dogs in the buns and spoon chili on top.
