Fresno, CA - Saint Agnes Diagnostic Breast Center has joined the ranks of top breast imaging facilities nationwide by being named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Nationwide, only 7 percent of certified breast imaging centers have this "Center of Excellence" distinction.
The BICOE designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that earn full accreditation by ACR in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy). For patients, the designation serves as a guide to finding the best breast imaging centers available.
"This is a significant milestone for breast imaging services at Saint Agnes," radiologist Jeffrey Cochiolo, MD, Lead Interpreting Physician, says. "Not only can our clinicians take pride in this achievement, Valley residents can also trust that they're getting the very best in care."
To become a Center of Excellence, the Diagnostic Breast Center underwent a rigorous review of personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance, and quality control procedures by a team of board-certified physicians and medical physicists.
Under the umbrella of Saint Agnes Medical Center's full-service breast program, Saint Agnes Diagnostic Breast Center offers the latest treatment options available for breast cancer diagnosis and intervention. This includes minimally invasive stereotactic and ultrasound procedures to provide a precise diagnosis for breast problems, often without the need for surgery. The Center also uses all-digital mammography equipment, which allows clinicians to have access to a higher quality image to better visualize tiny calcifications that can be the earliest signs of cancer.
