September 16 – Session 1

Make Your Health Last as Long as Your Life
While a financial plan is important, a good health plan is just as critical. There is a difference between longevity (the amount of years you live) and health span (the number of years you live in good health). Two people, for example, may each live to age 85. However, the first spends the last 20 years of life in a golf cart, while the other spends those years in a wheelchair. Their respective longevity is the same, but their health spans are drastically different. In this timely program, Joe examines the lifestyle habits found in societies all over the world where people not only live longer, but also have extended years of good health. Those habits form the basis for the 10 Weeks to a Healthier You program.

September 30 – Session 2

Move It or Lose It
A commitment to regular exercise is critical to living a healthy lifestyle. In this session Joe will explain the link between physical activity and weight control, cardiac health and stress management. He will examine how to establish a balanced exercise program – aerobic, weight resistance and flexibility – and suggest ways to make exercise a regular part of your life. He will be joined by ABC30 Fitness Expert Rhonda Murphy, CPT.

October 14 – Session 3

Eating Healthy in a Doubleburger.com World
A balanced diet is critical for good health and increased performance. But how does one sort out what is balanced in a world of constantly conflicting claims about what it means to be healthy? In over three decades of successfully managing his heart disease, Joe knows fad diets from real science.  His sensible, realistic program offers basic principles for healthy eating, including cutting-edge methods on how to control your fat tooth (That's right – fat tooth, not sweet tooth!) along with scientific information about good nutrition from a Saint Agnes registered dietitian.

October 21 – Session 4

Take a Load Off Your Heart

In this era of too little time and too much to do, Americans are living with chronic stress. Indeed, 89 percent of Americans say that the stress in their lives is overwhelming. The result is often high levels of frustration, anxiety and anger.  In this presentation, Joe examines the impact of chronic stress on health, productivity and quality of life. He helps audiences understand that the secret to a balanced life is not to avoid stress, but to manage it; not to react to stress, but to respond to it. His program provides audiences with a variety of mental and physical tools to successfully manage stress every day.

October 28 – Session 5

Healthy Cooking

It is one thing to understand the basics of healthy eating, but quite another to make those basics work in the meals that you cook for your family. In this “hands-on” demonstration, Joe will be joined by a local chef to prepare and cook a number of healthy recipes based on the Mediterranean diet. They will illustrate that good food and good taste go together.

November 4 – Session 6

Raising Fit Kids in a Fast World

Raised with the temptations of fast food, texting, television and computer games, kids are more sedentary, overweight and out-of-shape than a generation ago. In the last decade the obesity rate in children has increased by more than 50 percent. The result: a generation of children with elevated cholesterol, higher blood pressure and more Type 2 diabetes. This may be the first generation not to live as long as their parents. What are parents to do? In this program, Joe offers practical and easy-to-implement strategies for teaching children healthy exercise and eating habits that will last them a lifetime. Looking for a strategy to improve the lifestyle habits of your kids?  This program is for you.

November 11 – Session 7

Making Healthy Habits Last a Lifetime

Prior to this final session, you will be encouraged to get a post-fitness assessment to measure your 10-week progress. Then it’s time to celebrate your completion of the program! But it’s also a time to re-set goals. Joe will examine how to make your 10-week goals last a lifetime … how to truly make a commitment to living each day for good health.
