HUMOR & MUSIC PROGRAM Laughter can often make a bad situation more bearable. At Saint Agnes Medical Center, we believe that humor has healing properties that are beneficial to the human body. Likewise music can be very soothing, helping relieve the tensions and anxiety of both patients and their families. That is why we have developed a Humor and Music Program to complement our clinical services. Humor and music therapy is available free of charge 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. For more information about this innovative service, call (559) 450-3643. |
The staff and volunteers can provide a number of mood-enhancing options including: - Video tapes with VCR
- Audio tapes with headset
- Books
- Puzzles
- Games
- Musicians
- Care Clown (by special arrangement only)
- Relaxation and Visualization tapes/CDs
The Humor and Music Department is always looking for volunteers to help round out our program. If you are interested, please contact us at (559) 450-3643. |
Therapeutic Music Lab An exciting new service offered by the Humor and Music program is the Therapeutic Music Lab on 2-Main. Created in partnership with Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute, Inc., the Therapeutic Music Lab features Yamaha Clavinova pianos – specialized digital pianos that allow individuals with limited physical capabilities, no musical knowledge and no prior training to experience the joy of creating music. Saint Agnes is one of only two medical centers in the United States using this innovative technology. |
During the 45- to 60-minute sessions, a trained facilitator leads four participants –each person at his or her own piano – through a series of breathing exercises, interactive drum rhythms and melodic improvisations. Exercises can also be tailored specifically to a patient's medical conditions. What may be best for a heart attack survivor may be completely different for a patient facing respiratory issues. Recognizing the day-to-day stresses in a work environment, Saint Agnes has also opened the program to its employees. Outpatients who come to the program are referred by their physician or other sources. To learn more, read the article in The Fresno Bee. For more information, call (559) 450-3643. |
