NEW FLU SEASON VISITOR POLICY
9/30/2009In preparation for the possibility of an H1N1 flu pandemic this fall – in addition to the seasonal influenza – Saint Agnes Medical Center is taking extra precautions to protect our patients, visitors and staff from exposure to respiratory and flu illness. This includes implementation of our flu season visitor policy, outlined below. Flu Season Visitor Policy (now in effect until further notice)
- Visitors are limited to two per patient.
- Anyone with cold or flu symptoms may not visit patients.
- Visitors should wash their hands with soap and water or instant hand sanitizer (available at entrance of each room) before and after each visit.
- Children under age 14 may NOT visit patients or be in patient care areas. We ask parents, if possible, to leave children home when visiting the hospital.
Exception: Child siblings may visit the Sixth Floor, and children of critically ill or end-of-life patients may visit with approval by nursing. These children may visit only after being screened at check-in for fever and any respiratory illness. Children screened for visitation will be awarded a “Good Health Badge” sticker to be worn while visiting. - Visitors under age 14 who do not meet the exception criteria above should be redirected (with adult supervision) to the following “public” waiting areas:
Main Wing - One Main Café (1-Main)
- Lobby/Gift Shop, OB and Surgical waiting rooms, corridor leading to West Wing (2-Main)
- Outpatient Surgery Waiting Room (4-Main) To prevent visitors from walking through patient care area on 4-Main, please ask them to use elevators east of the Outpatient Lab.
North Wing - Patient Registration waiting area inside Outpatient Center (1-North)
- Cyber Café and waiting area down the hallway leading up to Café (2-North)
- Rotunda area (2-North)
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with our flu season visitor policy. While we hate to turn anyone away, we have an obligation to protect the health and safety of our patients, visitors and staff.
